About Paul Ippolito

Since the early 1990's, Paul Ippolito has conveyed his passion and knowledge of Australian wine to all around him, indeed sometimes whether they wanted to hear his opinion or not.

Occasionally, and in order to stem this flow of words, his long-suffering friends succeeded by giving him a further glass or two of good wine, which only served to increase his passion for all things wine related and his resolve to share his experiences with even more people.

An avid collector and wine drinker, Paul Ippolito has spent the ensuing years keeping abreast of developments in the Australian wine industry as well as further educating himself about wine through tasting after tasting (quite a few of them in fact!) and travelling across Australia visiting wineries – a tough gig but yet he was the man for it.

And then one day Paul decided it wasn’t enough just drinking the stuff and boring all round him about wine, no, he wanted to see his name in print and tell the world what he thought, so Paul decided to start writing about wine.

So that’s how Paul Ippolito burst onto the Australian wine writing scene about 5 years ago.

Paul got published in wine after enduring his fair share of knock backs from editors and publishers, until he finally cracked a gig writing for a newspaper in Southern NSW. This was followed by quite a few other writing gigs all around Australia as well as on the internet and then overseas. At one stage Paul was writing for over a dozen publications nationally and throughout New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia. He also wrote for a wine magazine in India and a luxury food and wine magazine in Singapore.

Inundated with request after request of "what's a good wine for such and such occasion or under X dollars?" Paul decided to produce and self publish an independent monthly wine consumer newsletter, called aptly 'Paul Ippolito Talks Wine', (indeed what else was he going to call it) which overwhelmed his most optimistic expectations. PITW was especially written for the wine drinker who wanted to know more about wine but did not know where to turn to for advice. The newsletter’s clear and simple format, easy to read nature, unpretentious writing style and user friendly layout attracted a burgeoning subscription base that encompassed an audience ranging from novices, wine geeks, winemakers to wine scribes.

In between all this Paul even made a couple of appearances on Australian radio telling all and sundry what he knew about wine!

However Paul's most pervasive publication ventures have been in the wine cyberspace world with his long standing regular wine contributions to one of Australia's largest online women's magazine sites and the lifestyle section of one of Australia's original web search engine websites.

His own website was inevitable and since 2007, www.paulippolito.com.au has been his domain for wine writing.

Indeed nowadays it is the only wine writing medium for him and Paul relishes in sharing his one man daily wine rush of wine experiences to a world wide wine drinking audience.

As you can tell Paul immensely enjoys the fruits of editorial majesty and encompasses a wine writing philosophy that remains firmly grounded in demystifying wine and making sure it focuses on what it really all should be about  - sharing it with good food and good friends.

Paul Ippolito hopes you enjoy his wine writing website!
