Keep Networking - A Gentle Nudge For Solo Lawyers
Here’s a confession - I still dislike networking.
I dislike doing it.
Dislike with some emphasis.
However…
I know it’s essential, even when things are busy at work and other priorities are screaming for my attention.
Someone once gave me some sage advice - “Keep networking and building relationships even when you don’t have time.”
They were spot on.
I tell coaching clients this all the time - they respond by saying "But Paul, I am so busy already, I don't have time and I don't need the extra work".
Regardless I network all the time - it is a natural part of my workload as a solo lawyer and as a lawyer coach.
I repeat I don't like doing it. Nothing personal, but it is not something I enjoy.
Regardless I push myself to do it - consistently in some form or another.
There will be times when you’re doing it and wondering, especially when you are busy and getting little return for effort - why am I doing this?
My advice - keep on keeping on, when it comes to networking. Remain persistent. Do it even when you are really busy.
One day when everyone else is saying things are really quiet, you will thank me.
Keep networking, even when you don’t feel like it.
