Optimising The Solo Practice You Already Have
Five starting points for solo lawyers looking at profit, pricing, clients, control and direction in their existing practice.
In quite a lot of cases, it is not about growing the practice but about optimising the one you already have.
These five things are some of the starting points for most of the strategy sessions I have with clients.
1. Profit
Are you making enough profit for the effort, risk and responsibility involved?
2. Pricing
Are you charging properly, or are you undercharging, discounting, writing off time, over-servicing or avoiding difficult fee conversations?
3. Clients
Are you working with the right clients, or accepting too many poor-fit matters?
4. Control
Does your practice run through proper systems, or does too much still depend on your personal energy?
5. Direction
Do you know what kind of practice you are building, and what needs to change over the next 3 to 12 months?
