Solo Lawyers - Leverage Your Freedom Before You Leverage AI
Why owning your routine is one of the greatest advantages of solo practice
I spend a lot of time working with solo lawyers trying to get the following point across.
You completely own your daily routine.
It does not have to be X am to Y pm in the office, Z days a week.
It can be whatever you decide, and you can change it whenever you need to.
Why else unshackle yourself from working and making money for someone else if not to have freedom as a solo lawyer?
If the pandemic showed us anything, it was that work and life are not opposing forces. They can be integrated in a way that creates balance.
You no longer have to work only in an office or only at home. You can choose the combination that suits you best.
As a solo lawyer, you have freedom. Many have simply forgotten it.
Solo lawyers have a level of agility and control that traditional structures simply cannot offer. That is a genuine strength and it should be used. Otherwise, why did you go solo in the first place?
If you put yourself first, your health, then your family, the rest tends to fall into place. Easy to say, harder to do, I admit.
Over the years I have managed to get home for most family dinners and to be present when I should have been as a father, husband and friend. The people that count remember this far more, than how much money I brought home.
Reflecting back on nearly 40 years of work, both for myself and for others, I have no regrets about crafting my work routine and making time for myself and for the people who mattered in my life.
Life is too short. It passes quickly, and you never know what is around the corner.
If you are a solo lawyer, forget about leveraging AI.
Focus on leveraging your freedom instead.
